Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital mourns the passing of former associate, Dr. Vaughn Meyer, and offers condolences to the Meyer family and friends.
“Dr. Meyer was heavily invested in the success of Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital,” says Dr. Blake Curd. “He was not only a steward of our growth, but a generous contributor to our community.”
Dr. Meyer served on several medical and community boards and was known to love visiting his children and grandchildren. He and his wife JoAnn were particularly supportive of the Sioux Falls Lutheran School, where they worshiped and educated their children. Dr. Meyer's upbringing on a diligent farm laid the foundation for his strong work ethic. During medical school, Vaughn discovered a passion for aviation, becoming a pilot. This unique combination of a farming background and a love for flight reflects the diverse and dynamic nature of his experiences. Dr. Meyer's impact extended beyond the surgical suite. His commitment to his plastic surgery practice was marked by genuine care and unwavering support for his patients. He took the time to understand their individual concerns, providing not just medical expertise but also emotional support. His empathetic approach and personalized care made a profound difference in the lives of those he treated. Patients not only saw transformative results physically but also experienced a sense of empowerment and confidence, thanks to Dr. Meyer's dedicated and compassionate approach to their well-being. His legacy is defined by the positive transformations he facilitated, leaving an enduring mark on the lives he touched. Beyond the operating room, his heart belonged to hockey, where he enthusiastically cheered for teams like the Minnesota Wild and Sioux Falls Stampede. During his retirement, he enjoyed devoting more time to their church (Our Redeemer Lutheran). He was diligent about learning to play the piano. His influence served as a guiding light for each of his children, inspiring them to embark on fulfilling careers within the medical field. His commitment to healing and compassion left a lasting imprint, shaping their professional journeys.
His legacy remains eternally honored and beloved within the Sioux Falls medical community. The impact he made will be cherished for generations to come.
